ITIN'S EXPIRE AT YEAR END

More than 2 million Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITIN’s) will expire at the end of 2018.  ITIN's are used by nonresident alien individuals who are required to file a US tax return.  ITIN’s that have not been used on a federal tax return in the last three years will expire December 31, 2018.  Additionally, ITIN’s with middle digits 73, 74, 75, 76, 77, 81, or 82 will also expire at the end of the year.  ITIN’s can be renewed by submitting Form W-7 to the IRS.  It is advisable to do this soon as waiting until the end of 2018 could result in your 2018 tax return being processed incorrectly.  Also, don’t forget the family option.  Under this option, a taxpayer with an expiring ITIN can choose to renew all ITIN’s for their entire family.
